Stampin Up merry tags framelits handmade Christmas card

Hello and welcome.

The colour challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week is to use red, green and brown. I decided to also challenge myself to use up some of my scraps and spare die cuts, and see what I could come up with. I auditioned various items until I was happy with the look …

On a base of real red card, I added layers of dsp which had red, green and brown in two shades – crumb cake and early espresso, crumb cake card and a piece of bronze glitter card which matched the pale brown crumb cake card beautifully.

The die cuts were also in my scraps box and were perfect as focal points for my card. I popped them up on foam tape to add dimension.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment in early espresso brown ink onto a scrap of white card and cut into a banner shape before adding to the card.

I’m really pleased with how the card turned out, and pleased to have made use of those scraps I’ve been holding onto!

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in the challenge – we’d love to see what you create.

Enjoy your weekend.

Petals a plenty embossed vellum Christmas card

Hello and welcome.

The April technique challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week is vellum embossing. I love the look of vellum, and have lots of it in my stash but rarely use it, which is a shame. It does, however, have its drawbacks as it is notoriously difficult to adhere to your projects without the adhesive showing.  Thankfully, there is lots of help out there on youtube giving hints and tips for helping get around this problem.  I chose to make a vellum overlay to my card …

I first embossed the vellum using the petals a plenty embossing folder by Stampin Up, and adhered this to an A6 real red card base, leaving a 1/4″ border for the base colour to show through. I added just a think line of adhesive to still the vellum across the top of the card so I was able to easily cover the adhesive marks with a length of real red grosgrain ribbon.

I used my corner rounder punch on both the vellum and the card base.

The sentiment from Christmas to Remember by Stampin Up, was stamped in black ink on whisper white card and then die cut using the seasonal labels die set, also by Stampin Up. I cut the label to fit and tucked it under the ribbon.

Finally, I adhered a red heart sequin to the label to fill the space.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join the challenge this week.  Do pop on over to the blog to see what the rest of the design team have created for your inspiration.

Enjoy your weekend
