Vintage book box and cards…

Well!  What a couple of weeks I’ve had!  I was asked by Michelle Last, UK number one Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator of the year, to design a project for her quarterly training event that took place in Bicester yesterday.

Wow!  I felt over the moon and very honoured to be asked.

So I set about creating something that I thought would get everyone’s creative juices flowing, and also showcase some fabulous designer series paper from Stampin’ Up!

I designed a box to hold four A6 size cards and envelopes …

And a little peek inside the box …

I love the vintage, distressed style that is so popular at the moment and the Botanical Gazette designer series paper, available in the current mini catalogue, was the inspiration for my project.  I particularly love one of the typeface sheets, and this was the starting point for my design.   I made the box to look like a book, and created four different designs for the vintage style cards to go inside.

If you would like to make this project yourself, full step-by-step instructions with colour photos are available to download in pdf format by following the link on my right hand toolbar.

All the designer series paper from Stampin’ Up! is double sided, and the designs co-ordinate so beautifully with each other… the cards virtually make themselves!

This project would make a fabulous gift… if you can bear to give it away … 🙂

The ladies who attended training seemed to love it and I enjoyed seeing their own takes on my design.  Thank you ladies for all your kind words, and thank you to Michelle too for all your encouragement.  I was exhausted at the end of the day, but it was so worth it!

Faux mother of pearl…

I saw a tutorial on the Slitcoaststampers website for the faux mother of pearl technique which was totally new to me.  The tutorial was really easy to follow and I was so pleased with the results.  It gave a very luxurious, expensive feel to the background paper I made.

You can just about see how the shimmer mist paint makes the background shiny …

I made a full A4 size sheet using whisper white cardstock and so had plenty to make several cards…

I used my favourite Nature Walk stamp set, distressed the edges by sponging with crumb cake ink and used the In Stitches stamp to stamp a stitching line up the sides of the card which I think looks just like a row of little bird footprints!  Love it!

Stampin Up supplies used:

Cardstock: whisper white, basic black, very vanilla, crumb cake; Inks: basic gray, crumb cake, black stazon, pink pirouette, champagne mist shimmer paint, bashful blue, certainly celery, so saffron, perfect plum; Stamp sets: in stitches, nature walk, sweet swirls, sincere salutations, occasional quotes (level 3 hostess set); Punches: decorative label; Accessories: blender pen, stampin’ dimensionals, glue dots, whisper white organza ribbon, basic pearls, pretty in pink taffeta ribbon.
