Christmas lights – More Holiday Decorations by Spellbinders

Hello and welcome to my craft space – come on in and see what I’ve been making.

Tracy has set a really fun challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – she has challenged us to use Christmas Lights on our card.   I am lucky enough to own the More Holiday Decorations die set by Spellbinders – which is just perfect for this challenge.  I chose Pool Party card by Stampin Up for my base card and added a layer of shimmery white card, embossed with the Softly Falling embossing folder by Stampin Up and die cut with a large circle die to give a curved edge.

Next, I die cut lots of the lights, toppers and strings using the die set in rainbox colours – melon mambo, pumpkin pie, daffodil delight, granny apple green, pool party and a purple, the name of which escapes me as I’ve had it in my stash for a very long time! I chose garden green for the bulb holders and wire strings as these would be camouflaged beautifully on a real tree.

Shading was added to each coloured bulb using the co-ordinating ink colours and sponge daubers. I chose wisteria wonder for the purple shade.  I played around with the placement of the lights until I was happy with the composition, then photographed it on my phone as a reminder and to help me adhere all the elements in the right places.

The die cut sentiment is from the Holiday Sentiments set by Spellbinders.  It can be a little flimsy once but this enabled me to curve it a little to match the curve of the card.  I stamped the word “Happy” above the die cut using my Misti to help me get the right placement. I toyed with the idea of popping up the white layer as well as the lights themselves, but decided to keep it flat for ease of posting.

This card reminds me so much of my childhood as my parents had a set of Christmas lights just like these on their tree. The rainbow colours are so happy and cheerful, I just love it!

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in the challenge this week – we would love to see what you make.

Happy weekend

  1. What a fabulous card. This die set was the perfect choice for this theme. I love how you die cut the bulbs individually in different colours. Love how you used my theme to make your creation.
