Black and white Christmas cards

Hello and welcome. The colour challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week took me totally out of my comfort zone as it challenges us to use just black and white and no other colour.  These are not my go to colours for any cards, let alone for Christmas. However, once I got into my stride, I found it a little hard to stop and ended up making not one but 3 cards – all quite different and using some techniques I’ve not tried before…

This first card is the one I submitted for the design team.  I made the background paper by using a similar method to the black ice technique.  As we couldn’t use anything but black or white, instead of using metallic card I embossed a piece of glossy white card with the Sizzix embossing folder rhombus pattern, swiped black stazon ink across and then added clear heat embossing all over.  It’s hard to see the full effect in the photo but it has a fabric look to it.  I mounted 3D embossed snowflakes by Tim Holtz with foam adhesive on top of the strip of black card and adhered everything to the base card.

For the next card I used the same embossing folder and added clear heat embossing all over – I just love the shine and the contrast of the die cuts against the background…

And the last card was my husband’s favourite – he loved the simplicity and the modern look…

Having initially starting out struggling with this challenge, I am pleased with the results, and I now have three cards to add to my stash.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in the challenge this week.

Enjoy your weekend

Masculine Christmas card

Hello and welcome.

Masculine cards are not the easiest to make, so for this week’s challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, I turned to my husband for help with my design…

I asked his advice about what type of card he likes to receive and jotted down several ideas as we chatted.

First, I stamped a whisper white piece of cardstock using the Christmas Season stamp set by Stampin’ Up, in a variety of ink colours – certainly celery, garden green, old olive and real red, and then adhered this to an old olive base card.

I stamped the sentiment from Holly Jolly Wishes in early espresso ink onto a stitched oval die cut in whisper white, inked around the edges and popped it up onto the card.

And that was it – my husband said it needed nothing more – job done!

I hope you’ve been inspired to join the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – we would love to see your cards.

Enjoy your weekend
