Sparkling best of butterflies …

Ooh! What a busy, bustling time of the year it is!  Lots to do as we prepare for Christmas.  But amid the seasonal makes, I found time to make a card for the lovely Diane, to let her know just how much she is going to be missed.

I used the largest butterfly from the best of butterflies stamp set from Stampin’ Up!, stamped three times in island indigo without re-inking – to achieve 3 shades of the same colour.

Best of butterflies leaving card

I hand cut the butterflies and then stacked them, one on top of each other, adhering with a little tombo glue.  I popped small pieces of stampin’ dimensionals between the wings to keep them raised, giving a 3D effect.

To add a little sparkle to the butterfly, I used a two-way glue pen around the edges of the wings and sprinkled with dazzling diamonds glitter.

I added glitter to the tea lace paper doily too, although this was more of a happy accident than design. I used my anywhere glue stick to adhere the doily, completely forgetting for a moment about the holes in the doily!  So I sprinkled dazzling diamonds on the doily too … sparkly serendipity!

A sprinkling of adhesive pearls – one coloured with crystal effects and ink to colour match the butterfly…

Whisper white baker’s twine, tied around the card in a small bow, added some soft texture.

The doilies were actually a gift from one my Stampin’ Up friends – Jane – which I’ve had for ages and not used (they are so pretty too).  I finally put them to good use Jane – thank you!  I love Jane’s crafting style – do check out her beautiful creations at Petite Fleur Paperie.

And I was delighted to learn this week, that my Christmas card made the top 3 in the  Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenge!  I’m so pleased!

Spurred on by this success, I’ve entered today’s card in the Less is More challenge – which this week is “sparkle”.

And the inspiration for today’s card came from a birthday card and gift box my gorgeous friend, Debs, made for me…

Ozzie owl …

One of the girls has made the massive decision to emigrate back home to Oz.  We will miss her and wish her a safe trip back to Australia.

I punched out the cute little owl using the owl builder punch from Stampin Up for the focal point of the card, then used my big shot die cutting machine with the scallop circle die and alphabet dies in bashful blue designer series paper and cardstock, adding some faux stitching and highlights to the letters with a white gel pen.

I love the bashful blue and so saffron colours together – I think they go so well… must use that colour combo again.

All supplies from Stampin’ Up.
