Hello and welcome. This week’s theme challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is polar bears. I saw a really cute shaped card on Kristi’s blog and was inspired to make my own polar bear version using punch art…
Kristi shared a link to Treasure Box Designs and I just love their adorable paper pieced animals. They have a sale at the moment so I couldn’t resist treating myself to some of their cuties and can’t wait to have a play with them, so watch this space for more paper pieced cards coming soon! The patterns can be cut by hand or with cutting machines. I do own a craft robo but have (shamefully) never really used it – I couldn’t get to grips with it, and spent too long on my computer trying to figure it out. So I usually prefer to play with punches and dies instead, or just cut by hand.
The head of my polar bear is a piece of whisper white thick cardstock cut in half lengthwise, scored and folded in half. I then rounded the top and bottom freehand with my paper snips. The ears, paws, nose, muzzle and eyes were cut using my Stampin’ Up stitched framelits and details added with a white gel pen…
Finally, I made punch art holly leaves and berries with my oval and circle punches by Stampin’ Up, and sponged with matching inks.
I adhered most of the features flat to the card, but popped up his muzzle for a little added dimension. I had just finished making my card when my cat came in out of the garden with wet, muddy paws and jumped up on my desk, landing on my poor little polar bear – I nearly cried! My cat was not my friend for a while, I can tell you! Thankfully, once the card dried I was able to rub away most of the marks with an eraser. Phew!
I hope you like my card for this week. We would love for you to join us at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and show us your beautiful artwork.
It’s great to hear from you, so please feel free to leave a message.
Thanks for dropping by today
