Hello crafters! It’s colour challenge week over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, and this time we’re celebrating the timeless, elegant pairing of gold and blue. These two colours together always make me think of icy winter nights and twinkling festive lights, so I knew I wanted to keep things crisp and classy with this design.
Materials Used:
- A6 Night of Navy card base (Stampin’ Up)
- Versamark ink
- Gold embossing powder and heat tool
- Bold Snowflake Flurry die set by Sue Wilson (Creative Expressions)
- Gold glitter cardstock
- Christmas Pines snowflake and sentiment stamps (Stampin’ Up)
- Paper trimmer, adhesives
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Card Base
Start with an A6 card base made from Night of Navy cardstock — it’s the perfect deep, wintry backdrop for this striking colour combo.

Step 2: Heat Embossing
Stamp snowflakes down the left-hand side of the card front using Versamark ink. Add gold embossing powder, tap off the excess, and heat set until the powder melts to a beautiful, shiny finish.
Next, stamp your sentiment in the bottom right corner of the card in Versamark and heat emboss in gold as well. The contrast against the navy card is truly stunning.

Step 3: Die Cut Snowflakes
Using the Bold Snowflake Flurry dies, cut three snowflakes in graduated sizes from gold glitter cardstock. These add texture, shine, and movement to the card.
Adhere the largest snowflake towards the top left of the card, letting it extend slightly over the card’s edge. Trim away any excess hanging over the edge.
Add the medium and small snowflakes, positioning one just above and one just below the large one for a balanced, cascading look.

Final Thoughts
This week’s gold and blue challenge really shows how a limited colour palette can still create dramatic, eye-catching results. The bold gold embossing and sparkling snowflakes add just the right touch of glamour to this simple, elegant card.
We can’t wait to see your take on this week’s challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Happy stamping, and may your craft room be full of festive sparkle!
