This week’s theme challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is poinsettias – such a classic Christmas motif and one that never goes out of style. I couldn’t resist pulling out some festive patterned paper to build my card around.
Card Details
- Challenge theme: Poinsettias
- Card size: 6-inch square
- Main products: Scallop Stack Square Dies & Ribbon Layering Dies by Craft Addiction UK, Stampin’ Up DSP, Silver Mirri Card
Step 1: Creating the Shaped Base
I wanted to make this card a little more special, so I created a scallop-edged card base. To do this, I die cut two panels of basic white cardstock using the largest die from the Scallop Stack Square set by Craft Addiction UK.
One of the die cuts was scored at ½ inch along the side edge to form a hinge, then I adhered the second die cut to this flap. It’s a simple technique, but it makes a really sturdy shaped base.

Step 2: Building the Layers
For the mat, I cut a layer of silver mirri card, which adds such a lovely festive shine.
On top of this, I added a piece of poinsettia patterned paper from Stampin’ Up – the perfect choice for this week’s challenge theme. The bold red blooms framed by the silver edge already gave the card a really luxurious feel.

Step 3: Sentiment Panel
For the sentiment, I stamped in black ink on basic white cardstock, keeping it crisp and simple. I die cut it with the Ribbon Layering Dies by Craft Addiction UK, which gave it a nice decorative edge.
To frame it, I used a stitched circle die to cut a mat from silver mirri card, then layered the sentiment panel on top.
This circle topper was then adhered to the card front with dimensional adhesive for a little lift.

Step 4: Finishing Touches
As a final detail, I tied a tiny fork bow from narrow red ribbon and attached it just below the sentiment circle using a glue dot. It’s a small addition, but it really finishes the design off beautifully.

Final Thoughts
This was such a fun theme to play with – poinsettias always make me think of Christmas! The scallop edge gives the card a sweet decorative frame, while the silver mirri card brings in that festive sparkle.
There’s still time to join in with this week’s Poinsettia Challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown – I’d love to see your take on it.
Happy crafting!

This is a beautiful creation with stunning details.
