52 Christmas Card Throwdown – December Colour Challenge

Hello again.

It’s week two of our festive throwback month here at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, where every December challenge is inspired by something we’ve played with earlier in the year. This time, we’re revisiting a previous colour challenge, and I picked one of my absolute favourites: Red and Green from May 2025. You just can’t get more classic Christmas than that!

I leaned right into the traditional palette this week and had a lovely time creating something both festive and functional.

Classic Red & Green, Reimagined

Keeping with the timeless theme, I chose the same gift-giving twist as last week and created another gift card holder. These are so handy at this time of year — perfect for slipping into a stocking or tucking under the tree.

Front of the Card

Because this was a colour-focused challenge, I let the red and green do most of the talking. I kept the design clean, simple, and deliberately spacious on the front so I could add a personalised greeting.  Some dsp from my stash and a cute watercoloured image by Louise, was all this card needed.

There’s room to pop on:

  • Daughter
  • Son
  • Grandson
  • Granddaughter
  • Friend
  • …any name or relation you need!

I love cards that feel customised, especially when the colour scheme is so classic.

Inside the Gift Card Holder

Inside, I built the pocket in the same way as last week:

  • A strip of cardstock, adhered on three sides,
  • A neat thumb notch at the top to make it easy to remove the gift card.

It’s such a simple construction, but it instantly turns a card into a keepsake and a useful little present.

Final Thoughts

Red and green might be the most traditional Christmas pairing out there, but it still feels fresh every time I come back to it. There’s something really comforting about working with a palette that instantly says “festive”.

I hope you’ll give this colour challenge a whirl and share your Christmas creations with us — I always love seeing how everyone interprets these classic combinations.

See you next week for another December throwback!
