52 Christmas Card Throwdown – December Theme Challenge

Hello crafty friends!

We’re continuing with our December throwback challenges at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, where each week we revisit a favourite from earlier in the year. This time it’s a previous theme challenge, and I couldn’t resist choosing Critters from July 2025. Honestly, if there’s an excuse to use cute animals on a Christmas card, I’m all in!

My Card for This Week’s Critters Challenge

Sticking with what has become a bit of a theme for me this month, I made another gift card holder. They’re just so practical at this time of year, and I love that they still feel special and handmade.

Focal Image

The star of the card is once again the adorable polar bear and penguin digi stamp by Louise Dunne. These two look like such good friends, and they make the perfect focal point for a Christmas card — sweet, cosy, and full of festive charm. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of using this image!

Design Details

To give the critters a cosy little home on the card front, I used:

  • Two coordinating patterns of DSP for added interest and contrast
  • A stitched edge die-cut circle, which frames the image beautifully and draws the eye straight to those cute little faces

The circle really helps ground the design and gives the focal image a finished look, while still keeping everything soft and playful.

Inside the Card

Just like the previous weeks, the inside of the card includes a simple gift card pocket, complete with a thumb notch so a gift card or money can be slipped in easily. Practical and cute — my favourite combination!

Final Thoughts

The Critters theme is such a fun one to revisit, especially when paired with a project that’s meant to be gifted. These sweet characters add so much warmth and personality, and they’re perfect for spreading a little Christmas cheer.

I hope you’ll join us for this week’s challenge and share your own critter-filled creations — I can’t wait to see them!
