Red and brown Christmas card using Spellbinders dies and embossing folder

Hello and welcome to this week’s 52 Christmas Card Throwdown colour challenge card.  When you limit your colour palette, I find you have to get creative to bring interest and contrast to your project. For my card, I used real red, early espresso and crumbcake cardstock by Stampin Up and teamed this with 3 different background papers by Spellbinders in shades of brown.

I embossed a piece of early espresso card using the tile mosaic 3D embossing folder by Spellbinders and adhered this to the front of a 5.5″ x 4.25″ base card.  I chose 3 different patterns from the Spellbinders paperpad and adhered these to a piece of white card to add a little stability, stamped the sentiment in early espresso ink using my Misti to line up, and adhered this to the card.

For the diecut poinsettias and sprigs, I added shading with the same coloured inks as the card, giving a soft and subtle shading. I added red stickles to the berries for sparkle.  Once dry, I arranged the die cuts on the card and added a sprinkling of red sequins.

I love how this card turned out.  The poinsettias were a little fiddly to put together but I like how they look once done, so really worth the effort.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join us at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – we’d love to see what you make.

Enjoy your weekend
