Creating handmade Christmas cards is a special way to share the holiday spirit, and today, I’m focusing on a masculine-themed design for the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Using the Spellbinders Open House Door Base Dies, we’ll craft a sophisticated and festive card featuring bold colours and classic elements.

Materials Needed:
- Spellbinders Open House Door Base Dies
- Cardstock: white, real red, sahara sand and gold
- Festive wreath embellishment (pre-made or DIY)
- Adhesive (glue or double-sided tape)
- Foam tape (for dimension)
- Die-cutting machine
- Trimmer and scoring tool
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare Your Card Base
Start with an A6 white cardstock base. Score and fold it neatly to create a strong foundation for your design.
Step 2: Die Cut the Door Elements
Using your Spellbinders Open House Door Base Dies, cut the door panel from Real Red cardstock. This bold red creates a classic and strong focal point.
Next, cut the door lintel and step from stone coloured cardstock – I used Sahara Sand by Stampin Up. This neutral tone balances the red and adds a touch of subtle elegance.
For added sophistication, use gold cardstock for small door details like the handle, mail slot, and the arched window frame above.

Step 3: Assemble the Door
Carefully adhere the die-cut door onto the card front, ensuring it’s centered. Attach the door frame and accents using glue.
If desired, create depth by using use foam tape behind some elements, such as the door panels, to give a dimensional effect. I kept my elements flat for ease of posting in the mail.

Step 4: Add the Wreath Embellishment
A masculine card can still feature festive elements! Attach a wreath embellishment to the center of the door. You can use a pre-made wreath, as I did, or create one using die-cut foliage, twine, or small pine sprigs. I have had this embellishment in my stash for a long time and I’m so happy I finally found the perfect project to use it on!
You could add a small sentiment tag hanging from the wreath with a subtle greeting like “Merry Christmas” or “Season’s Greetings.” Keep the font clean and classic to enhance the masculine appeal. I decided my card looked better without a sentiment, so I stamped a greeting inside instead.

Step 5: Finishing Touches
For extra flair, you can lightly distress the edges of the card for a rugged look or add subtle ink blending around the door frame to create depth. The details in these dies are amazing – the letterbox even opens, so you could add a tiny envelope if you wish! I kept my card clean and simple.

Final Thoughts
This masculine Christmas card combines bold colours, clean lines, and classic details to create an elegant Christmas card. Whether you’re making it for a friend, father, brother, or colleague, this design strikes the perfect balance between festive and refined.
