This week on 52 Christmas Card Throwdown it’s a colour challenge, taking inspiration from a real summer favourite – strawberries!

I chose to use the Stampin’ Up colours – cherry cobbler, garden green and old olive for my card. These gorgeous reds and greens have got to be my favourite go-to colours for Christmas – very traditional and they look fantastic together – I never tire of using them.
I needed a green mat layer for my sentiment but didn’t have any garden green cardstock left (I must place another order soon), so instead I cut a layer of whisper white and inked the edges using a stampin’ sponge. I really like the effect this gave too – very soft and pretty.

I used the pennant parade stamp set to stamp my modern-looking “trees”. This set will be retiring at the end of June, so if you like it, make sure you order yours soon. It goes perfectly with the pennant builder punch, making it easy to punch out your stamped images …

I love adding glitter to my Christmas cards too – if you can’t have a bit of sparkle at Christmas, when can you? And dazzling diamonds, by Stampin’ Up, are so pretty! It’s a very fine, sparkly glitter that glints and sparkles as the light catches it, and after all … dazzling diamonds are a girl’s best friend!

Inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest, I gave it the Stampin’ Up treatment, changing up the background, the stamping and the embellishments. I used all Stampin’ Up products, some of them from my retired stash but so, so pretty and just begging to be used. The new Stampin’ Up catalogue will be out on 1st July with lots of new crafting goodies – whoop!

Another lovely card for Christmas! Great idea on the sponging when out of a particular card colour xxx
Hi Peg. It’s a great tip as long as you don’t need a lot of cardstock showing. I only inked up the edges of the card that would be seen, and left the rest white. Thanks for your lovely comments and for visiting. Gill x
Love this – your Christmas trees are gorgeous – Jacqueline xx
Thanks Jacqueline. I like to use non-Christmas stamps for Christmas – get more use from my stamps this way. Hugs, Gill x
oh Gill, quelle jolie création, j’adore ces sapin et la fraîcheur de cette scène, biz
Merci beaucoup Fabiola, and thank you for visiting my blog, Gill x
I love the polka dot background, the lovely Christmas trees and the sweet sentiment. Great work.
Thanks Deborah. The polka dot designer series paper was one of my favourites. It’s hard to tell on my photographs, but the dots sparkle too! Gill x
This is awesome Gill. LOVE the trees and the torn snow against that polka dotted background. Happy weekend. Hugs D
Hi Danielle – I’m so glad you liked it! Hugs, Gill x
Gorgeous card, Gill. The polkadot background is perfect and I love how you made trees out of pennants. Genius! Have a great weekend!
hugs, Asha
Thank you Asha. The polka dot dsp was my favourite and I was pleased I had an opportunity to use it. Hugs, Gill x
What a fab card Gill, love the contempo look and the gorgeous sparkle! Ingenious way to add a ‘mat layer’ when you don’t have that colour CS – thanks for that marvellous tip! Have a great week! Ruth x
Thanks for your lovely comments Ruth and glad I could pass on the tip. It works very well and means you can have any colour cardstock you wish as long as you have white to colour with your inks! Hugs Gill x
You are so right, they are go to colours for Christmas cards and who could ever get tired of them? Love your Pennant Parade tree scene. Dazzling Diamond snow is fabulous too. Thanks for doing such a great job on the challenge this wek
