Pennant parade for a modern look Christmas …

This week on 52 Christmas Card Throwdown it’s a colour challenge, taking inspiration from a real summer favourite – strawberries!

strawberries

I chose to use the Stampin’ Up colours – cherry cobbler, garden green and old olive for my card. These gorgeous reds and greens have got to be my favourite go-to colours for Christmas – very traditional and they look fantastic together – I never tire of using them.

I needed a green mat layer for my sentiment but didn’t have any garden green cardstock left (I must place another order soon), so instead I cut a layer of whisper white and inked the edges using a stampin’ sponge.  I really like the effect this gave too – very soft and pretty.

I used the pennant parade stamp set to stamp my modern-looking “trees”. This set will be retiring at the end of June, so if you like it, make sure you order yours soon.  It goes perfectly with the pennant builder punch, making it easy to punch out your stamped images …

I love adding glitter to my Christmas cards too – if you can’t have a bit of sparkle at Christmas, when can you?  And dazzling diamonds, by Stampin’ Up, are so pretty!  It’s a very fine, sparkly glitter that glints and sparkles as the light catches it, and after all … dazzling diamonds are a girl’s best friend!

Inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest, I gave it the Stampin’ Up treatment, changing up the background, the stamping and the embellishments.  I used all Stampin’ Up products, some of them from my retired stash but so, so pretty and just begging to be used.  The new Stampin’ Up catalogue will be out on 1st July with lots of new crafting goodies – whoop!

The girls in the Design Team have been cooking up some lovely examples for you this week, so do pop by and take a look and join in the 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown challenge fun.  Hope to see your creations there!

Football penny slider card …

My neighbour’s eldest boy turned 10 last week.  He plays for his local football team, so of course the card I made for him had to have a football theme …

Louis birthday penny slider

I added a “goal” with some strips of whisper white cardstock to the penny slider card for the ball to slide into – boys in particular seem to enjoy receiving cards that move.

The woodgrain background stamp was stamped with lucky limeade ink onto the same colour cardstock, first in one direction and then again in the opposite direction, to give a grass-like texture.  I cut freehand into the top edge of the card with my paper snips for the blades of grass. The balloons were made using the small oval punch and the small heart from the owl builder punch, and then tied to the goal with linen thread.

The family has a gorgeous chocolate coloured cocker spaniel puppy and as Louis took off one of his football boots, the puppy grabbed it and then ran around the garden while Louis tried in vain to catch her – she was far too fast for him – it was like watching a live comedy!

Here’s what I used to make today’s card – all supplies from Stampin’ Up!:

cardstock: soft sky, real red, lucky limeade (retired), whisper white; stamp sets: memorable moments, woodgrain, pennant parade, just soccer (retired), itty bitty banners, just perfect alphabet (retired), numbers; inks: lucky limeade, basic grey, real red; punches: small oval, owl builder, petite pennant builder, 1/2” circle, 1” circle, 1 3/8” circle, word window; accessories: stampin’ dimensionals, paper snips, linen thread.
