Cute fairy Christmas …

There is the cutest challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – fairies!  I coloured my little fairy with coloured pencils..

The background was stamped using smoky slate and crumb cake ink by Stampin’ Up…

I layered the image on silver mirri board and popped it up with stampin’ dimensionals…

One of the lasting memories from my childhood, was my mum’s festive ritual of making a new dress for the fairy for the top of the Christmas tree.  Every year, the plastic ballerina doll got a new frock made from crepe paper and an elastic band, and anything else my mum had on hand, such as tinsel string or white netting.  She was such a pretty ballerina doing an arabesque but, over time, the poor thing had lost one leg!  She only had her standing leg left, so my mum made sure her dress was long enough so no-one noticed.

I still have the doll, wrapped in tissue, in a box in the loft, together with more of my mum’s Christmas decorations that I just can’t bear to part with.  My mum made Christmas magical and, as well as the tree, she made a snow scene display the full length of her sideboard. She would arrange colourful Christmas fairy lights around the whole scene, and there was a church at one end that would light up and it had a music box that played Silent Night.  One of my party pieces when I was very little was to sing to my dad’s friends whilst the church played and they would give me silver sixpences …now that’s showing my age!!!

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in and share your lovely cards with us. The Design Team girls have created lots of lovely cards to inspire you, so pop on over to 52 Christmas card Throwdown.
