Elfie Christmas card by Stampin Up

The sketch challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is being hosted by Majda this month.  When I saw this sketch it reminded me of one of the stamps from the Elfie set by Stampin Up ….

I replaced the circles with stamped images from the set which is a retired set but I haven’t used this set nearly as much as I’d like, so I’m glad I got to ink it up.

I first masked off a circle on a piece of whisper white card and inked over with soft sky ink.  It looks very pale on the photo but the colour is better in real life.  My ink pad was quite dry – I first tried to ink blend with a brush but the pad was too dry so I swiped the pad across the card instead.  The new sponge style pads by Stampin Up need re-inking much more than the original style.  I have both types and much prefer the original pads.

I stamped the stripes in real red ink on whisper white card using a stripes stamp, which is a long-retired single stamp which I’ve had for years.  I turned the card and cut a strip on the diagonal so the stripes were now going in the right direction.  I punched out a small circle in white and cut straight across to create a flat bottom for the top of the north pole.  The little elf was stamped on whisper white card using black stazon ink and coloured with Stampin Up markers in real red, daffodil delight and lucky limeade. I then fussy cut the little elf, cutting away the present he was standing on in the original image, and the bauble he was holding too – I thought this fit much better on my card.  The Santa’s workshop sign was from the same stamp set which I also stamped and fussy cut out.

I tore a strip of whisper white card the same width as the inked panel, and adhered it to the bottom to represent snow.  Then it was just a case of adhering the images to the panel, and mat and layering it to a standard A6 size card base with some festive paper.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown – the lovely team members would love to see what you come up with.

Thanks for visiting
