We celebrated our Silver Wedding anniversary last week – and they said we wouldn’t last!  My husband loves any card I make for him – bless him – but I wanted something special and something he would love, so made a pop up box card.  With some silver heat embossing and dry embossing with the big shot machine, the card came together … and I couldn’t help adding a little bit of bling.  And the two hearts joined as one were a reminder of our wedding cake …

The card folded flat into a C5 envelope.  He loves cards that move so I knew I’d be onto a winner with this one!

My hubby bought me so many beautiful presents – a fabby new food mixer (in silver of course!) beautiful flowers, chocolates, bubbly and this little box from Tiffany’s!

And what was inside? …

A Tiffany cupcake – gorgeous! (might just be my favourite kind of cupcake …) I would like to say a big thank you to my friends and family who gave us so many lovely cards and presents – we were truly spoiled.  One in particular brought a tear to my eye when I opened the box – it was a beautiful Silver Anniversary rose bush from my daughter and future son-in-law.  We’ll have to find a special place in the garden for it.  Thank you guys!  The weather was a little different 25 years ago – we had a lovely sunny day for the wedding, and the cherry blossom tree in the front garden was in full bloom, so as the wind blew, pale pink petals fell like confetti.  It was not an elaborate affair…we didn’t have much money – no little blue Tiffany boxes back then! I drove myself to the registry office in my little mini-metro car, I’d  made all my own wedding flowers – headdress, bouquet, corsages for the ladies and button holes for the gents – helped by my lovely mum.  My dress had to go back after the wedding, I made a buffet for the small reception back at the house with the help of my two nieces and my maid of honour, and had made my own wedding cake… My mum baked me a fruit cake and my mum, being my mum, made two …in case the first one didn’t turn out.  So, I had two heart-shaped fruit cakes but didn’t really know what to do with them. I ended up cutting a piece out of one and pushed the two together …two hearts joined as one.  I covered them with ready to roll icing and bought lots of those little silver cake decorations you find in newsagents … silver horseshoes, bells, wedding rings … things like that… and pushed them into the cake.  That was the extent of my cake decorating skills back then … As the saying goes, we didn’t have two halfpennies to rub together – but we were happy.  And when we got to the registry office we met with the Registrar, went through the usual checks and then he asked for the £10 we were to pay for the hire of the room where we were to be married.  My hubby turned to me … I was sat there in my wedding dress, holding a bouquet … I didn’t have any money on me!  And he’d been out on his stag do the night before so didn’t have any money either!  So I had to go and ask the congregation could anyone lend us a tenner whilst we got married!  At least we can laugh about it now.  And our honeymoon?  Well that was a day out in Southport and then we were straight back to work next day … We made up for it a few years later with an impromptu renewal of our vows whilst on holiday in the Maldives.  The locals pulled out all the stops to give us a special day.  We had Maldivian bridesmaids throwing flower petals as we walked to the beach where there was a wedding bower of arched palm leaves and a display of tropical flowers.  As we renewed our vows to the sound of the waves lapping on the shore, they broke open a coconut to reveal our wedding rings.  We had a procession  along the beach with the musicians playing and bridesmaids decorating our path.  The final surprise they’d arranged was to decorate the honeymoon suite with flower petals and leaves.
