Christmas card in rainbow colours

Hi and welcome.

For the colour challenge this month at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, I chose to use the colours of the rainbow.  Throughout this last year, rainbows have been ever present symbols of joy and hope, and Christmas is no exception.  With coloured lights and pretty baubles, we decorate our homes and encourage all the best the season has to offer.

There were so many ideas in my head for this challenge I had difficulty narrowing it down to one. First, I used distress inks in picked raspberry, spiced marmalade, mustard seed, shabby shutters and peacock feathers as my rainbow colours, and inked through a stencil, creating shadows and highlights using blending brushes.

It’s been grey and overcast all day here today, so the green colour hasn’t shown up too well in the photo, I think it needed to be a bit brighter, but shabby shutters was all I had to use – I think I may have to put some new inks on my Christmas list!

I used a versamark pen to ink the white areas of each bauble, added heat and stick powder and then dazzling diamonds glitter just for a bit of sparkle, which is really pretty in real life.

Some pretty gingham paper made a nice background, and I finished off with a sentiment stamped in black ink onto white card and punched with a scallop punch.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join us at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – we’d love to see your work.

Enjoy your weekend
