Over the last week or so, as well as joining in the fun and festivities of Christmas, I’ve also been having a tidy up and sort out of my craft room, hoping to start the New Year off well. So I still have some Christmas projects to share before I move on to all things new …
I made a Christmas cake! It was my first one – ever! My cake class teacher recommended Nigella Lawson’s recipe. She’s tried many different recipes over the years and thinks this is by far the best. As well as the usual ingredients, it contains chocolate – so what’s not to like?!
We had fun in class decorating the cake…
I just love those little penguins! So cute! I added a touch of edible glitter to make things sparkle.
I gave the cake to my daughter’s future mum-in-law. She invited us to spend Christmas with their family and we had such a lovely time – Christmas lunch was delicious and we were totally spoiled.
Margaret thought the cake looked too good to eat but she did cut into it after taking lots of photos – bless her! It did taste surprisingly good considering it was my first attempt! But I did follow the recipe to the letter!
The general consensus was that it was delicious and would make a rather nice wedding cake too … so at least I now have the perfect recipe for that – all I need now is practice between now and my daughter’s wedding in 18 months’ time!
I loved the little pengins so much that I used a snowy scene theme for my husband’s Christmas card too…
I cut a window sheet to a regular sized A5 card, folded in half and backed with a piece of bashful blue cardstock. I cut a piece of certainly celery to fit the front of the card, and curved the hill freehand. The snow drift and snowflakes were made from whisper white cardstock covered in dazzling diamonds adhered with heat and stick powder. I cut the snowdrift freehand and used the largest hole on my crop-a-dile to punch out the snowflakes. More whisper white was used to cut the letters for the word snow using the timeless type junior alphabet sizzlit dies and my big shot. And finally, the cute little penguin was punched out in basic black, whisper white and daffodil delight using the owl punch. I put it all together with tombow glue – I just love this adhesive as it is so forgiving! It allows you a few moments to move things round a little if you need to – love it!
