A Pretty Pink Teepee Card for the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

This week’s 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge is all about technique—Valentina challenged us to make teepee cards! I had never made a card like this before, but I love how this fold creates an instant wow factor while still being surprisingly easy to make. For my project, I went for a soft, elegant colour palette with shimmering metallics and delicate festive details.

Step 1: Creating the Teepee Base

For the base, I used Sizzix Opulent Cardstock in rose pink—the perfect luxurious backdrop. You’ll need three 4″ squares, each scored diagonally once. I adhered them together to form a triangular 3D structure. There are several YouTube tutorials out there, and you can find details on the 52 CCT webpage.

To keep the card closed when standing, I added tiny magnets, securing them with mini glue dots for a neat, hidden fastening.

Step 2: Adding the Mat Layers

Next, I cut three 3 3/4″ squares of silver mirri card and sliced each in half diagonally to create shimmering triangle mats. These were adhered to the outside-facing panels of the teepee.

For the remaining triangular sections, I cut smaller triangles to fit perfectly, ensuring every angle was covered and polished.

Step 3: Die-Cut Details

This is where the fun really began! I used:

  • Tim Holtz Holiday Greens by Sizzix in silver matte cardstock for frosty foliage.
  • Tim Holtz Winter Wonderland small deer in Basic White for a clean, crisp focal point.
  • Spellbinders Delivering Joy Sleigh poinsettias in Pink Pirouette cardstock for a soft, festive pop of colour.
  • Stampendous Make It Pop Cutting Dies sentiment tag in Pink Pirouette.

The die cuts were lightly shaped to give them dimension before adhering them to the card.

Step 4: The Sentiment

From Stampin’ Up’s Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set, I stamped my chosen sentiment in crisp black ink onto Basic White cardstock. I trimmed it to fit the tag, then used a small circle punch to round each corner, echoing the shape of the die-cut tag.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

A tiny fork bow made from Whisper White taffeta ribbon was attached to the base of the foliage with a mini glue dot for an elegant touch. I also added iridescent rhinestones to the centres of each poinsettia, giving just the right amount of sparkle.

Why This Card Works for the Challenge

The teepee fold already creates a showstopping shape, but the combination of rose pink, silver, and soft white takes it to a refined, festive level.  Not the easiest to photograph with all those shiny surfaces – but so pretty in real life. The magnetic closure makes it functional as well as beautiful, and the layering of foliage, florals, and the gentle deer adds depth and charm. Despite its dimension, the card folds flat into a standard size C6 envelope for posting.

If you’ve never tried a teepee card before, I highly recommend it—it’s a fun way to shake up your card-making routine and impress your recipients this Christmas!  Do pop over to 52 Christmas Card Throwdown to see what the rest of the design team have made to inspire you, and we hope you join in this fun challenge.
