Stampin Up sheet music embossing folder handmade Christmas card

Hello and welcome.

The May theme challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week is ‘music’. There are so many ideas to choose from for this theme, from stamps to paper and everything inbetween.  In the end, I decided to use the sheet music embossing folder by Stampin Up for the background of my card, and for a change, I added the embossing directly to the card base, so you see the embossing on the inside of the card too…

I’ve also recently been challenging myself to use up my paper scraps, so delved in my treasure chest of scraps and found this die cut star, left over from a previous project, which made the perfect focal image popped up on the card…

Also in my scrap box was this die cut ‘joy’ sentiment, from the Stampin Up wondrous wreath die set, which added a bright pop of colour to an otherwise neutral coloured card.

And to finish, I added a couple of die cut holly leaves, using the Tim Holtz Holiday Greens die set, ink sponged them around the edges, and added a crystal jewel for a little sparkle.

So, no stamping on my card this week – I had a great time playing with paper though.

I hope you’ll join in this super challenge.  The lovely ladies on the design team have created some beautiful examples to inspire you, so do pop over to take a look.

Enjoy your weekend

Gelli print background with oxide inks

Hello and welcome.

It’s the first Saturday of a new month, and that means its time for a sketch challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

I had so much fun with the previous mixed media challenge that I decided to create a background for my card using my gelli plate with oxide inks and a snowflake mask – I love the water colour effect it produced….

I added scraps of white textured card for the vertical ribbon to follow the sketch, and topped with a decal edge oval die cut by Spellbinders in pool party card by Stampin Up.

I added a 3D snowflake by Tim Holtz, cut from a piece of card that I’d coloured with a mixture of the oxide inks, and topped with a polar bear from the Folk Christmas stamp and die set by Sizzix on whisper white card, coloured with various stampin’ write ink pens.

I stamped a couple of holly leaves from the Christmas Season stamp set by Stampin Up in old olive ink and used the matching framelits to cut them out.  I added a sprig of foliage in white.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join our challenge this week – we’d love to see what you create using this sketch.

Enjoy your weekend
