A Christmas card featuring snowflakes

Hello and welcome.

Snowflakes are like winter’s secret beauty. When we think of Christmas, it conjures up a romantic idea of the traditional white Christmas, and everything’s magical when it snows.  I have this wonderful book all about snowflakes – they are just so beautiful to look at, magnified so they can be seen with the naked eye, so when I was setting the theme challenge for this week over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown snowflakes seemed to be the perfect theme to choose.

It’s so exciting to see snow falling, especially around Christmas time.  My daughter and I are big fans of The Gilmore Girls, and love Lorelai’s famous line “I smell snow” – makes us both smile. Five fun facts I found out about snowflakes:

1) all snowflakes have 6 arms
2) each snowflake is unique
3) it doesn’t have to be freezing to snow
4) it can never be too cold for snow
5) snow isn’t actually white – it’s translucent!
This last fact surprised me – as they are translucent, light is refracted through the crystals of the snowflake, and as all the colours of the light spectrum are reflected off the crystals, they appear white – isn’t nature amazing?!
So, when making my snowflake card, I went for multicolours – just for fun…

I created a watercolour background using two shades of distress inks on watercolour paper. Once dry, I stamped 3 snowflake images using flitterglu, which is perfect for adding gilding flakes.

I added multi-coloured gilding flakes from Clarity stamp, and burnished to bring up the shine.

I then mounted this onto a piece of white cardstock that I had inked with the same distress ink around the edge to match.

I stamped the sentiment in night of navy ink onto white card and cut into a banner shape to adhere to the card.  Finally, I added a sprinkling of gold half-backed pearls to finish.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in our challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown – we would love to see your beautiful cards, and there are prizes to be won – more details on the blog.

Enjoy your weekend

Embossed Christmas card …

Hello and welcome. The challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week is to use embossing. I chose to use both dry and heat embossing for my card …

I stamped the snowflake and sentiment onto a silver cardstock die cut panel using versamark ink and added white embossing powder then heat set…

I popped up the panel on dimensionals and added a rhinestone for sparkle…

I dry embossed both sides of a white card blank for added texture…

hope you like my card for this week.  We would love for you to join us at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and show us your beautiful artwork.

It’s great to hear from you, so please feel free to leave a message.

Thanks for dropping by today
