A Flurry of Snowflakes with a 3D snowflake by Tim Holtz

Hello and welcome.  December is here and we have a new hostess over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.  As it’s the first Saturday in the month, Fabiola has set us a new sketch to follow…

I die cut the 3D snowflakes by Tim Holtz in white card and painted the largest with Kuretake Gansai Tambi in blue gold watercolour paint and left to dry.

I embossed a square piece of white card using the Flurry of Snowflakes 3D embossing folder by Spellbinders and added splashes of blue gold watercolour paint.

To assemble, I adhered a piece of vellum to the centre and popped up the gold snowflake on dimensional adhesive, topping it with the smaller white snowflake.

The sentiment is from the Winter Garden Sentiments set by Spellbinders, stamped in versamark ink and heat embossing in gold, then handcut and adhered with dimensionals.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join the challenge this week – we’d love to see what you make.

Enjoy your weekend

Kraft, black and white Christmas card

Hello and welcome. I have really been enjoying setting the challenges for the month of November at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, and this week is the colour challenge.  When thinking about which colours to choose, I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone as I usually reach for more traditional Christmas colours, such as red, green, silver and gold etc. For inspiration, I looked at decor and fashion and loved the striking looks that can be achieved with limiting a colour palette to neutrals. So here goes – here is my contribution for this week’s challenge…

I chose to make the background from kraft coloured card, embossing it with the Spellbinders Flurry of Snowflakes 3D embossing folder before swiping with Spectrum Noir white pigment ink to highlight the design. I then adhered this to a white base card.

For my focal image, I used the Country Wreaths dies by Stampin Up for the wreath and the bow, and added a cute little bird and music notes using the Winter Sparrows stamp and die set by Lawn Fawn.

I offset the two die cut wreaths, and lifted all the leaves to give some fullness. I stamped the greeting then fussy cut around it and popped it up on the card for a little dimension.

I added black glitter to the bow and white multi crystal glitter mix to the wreath using heat and stick powder so the glitter doesn’t shed.

While I had all my supplies out, I decided to see how the wreath would look in black …

Using the same techniques as before, this time adding black glitter to the wreath here and there using liquid glue.  It’s a little difficult to see in the photos but it looks so sparkly in real life.

I have had the Tim Holtz Holiday Words Script die set for a long time, and I don’t think I’ve ever used this twinkle sentiment before, but it seemed to fit perfectly here.

I think my heart favours the first card, with that cute little bird, however, the black wreath against the kraft background is really striking, which I love too.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join our challenge this week – we’d love to see what you make.
