What do you get when you mix a festive flurry with a pool party ?…

Hi and welcome to my blog. Asha, our hostess at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown this month, has set us a wonderful colour challenge this week. I took the Festive Flurry stamp set from Stampin’ Up, and used pool party embossing powder to heat emboss snowflakes over basic black cardstock …

I don’t often use black for Christmas cards – in fact, I can’t ever remember using it before – so this was a new colour scheme to me, and I was a little out of my comfort zone. My usual go to colours are very traditional but I loved how the pool party embossing powder looked against the basic black cardstock ..

I added a bow of whisper white organza ribbon to soften the card a little, and popped a silver-backed, large, adhesive rhinestone to the centre…

I adhered the bow to the card with a dimensional to ensure it stayed put. This also helped to raise the bow up a little …

I was pleasantly surprised at how pretty the card looked when it was finished, so I think I may give black another try…

Now it’s time to see what the rest of the Design Team have been making for you. We do hope you will join us and show us your wonderful creations.

Be of good cheer Christmas card by Stampin’ Up …

Hi and welcome to my blog. The lovely Asha is our new hostess at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown this week, and she has set a wonderful sketch for us to follow. I used “Be of Good Cheer” Christmas paper and my heart framelits from Stampin’ Up to make this card …

52CCT-Sept-14-sketch

I’ve been tidying my craft room again and finding all kinds of treasures and pretties!  I came across a few sheets of the Be of Good Cheer Christmas dsp from a little while ago and decided it would work well with this week’s sketch…

I decided against tying a bow in the ribbon and instead added a snowflake embellishment with a pretty pearl centre.

For a change, I stamped the sentiment onto the heart shape as the paper was a bit too busy to stamp on…

I hope you like my card for this week. I find following a sketch really helps me to focus and I just love how the card came together.
