Sizzix 3D trees textured impressions embossing folder

Hi and welcome. The technique challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week is to use an embossing folder. The 3D trees folder by Sizzix is one of my favouries.  Instead of embossing the card in the usual way, I wanted something a little different so inked up the raised side of the embossing folder with white ink before running it through my bigshot machine. This pushed the ink into the debossed side of the card, giving a different look.

I finished with a simple stitched edged circle die cut, added a glitter snowflake by Tim Holtz, and a small sentiment, then tied a length of silver elastic thread, with added silver sequins.

But I wasn’t finished there – I kept playing and this time using silver ink. The images came out a little clearer this time. I cut the panel in half and used both pieces to make another two cards by adding a sentiment and some more snowflake diecuts …

I also added a white embossed panel to the background of this card to show off both the embossed and the debossed pattern …

And finally, inspired by examples I’d seen on Pinterest, I made a fourth card to show off how gorgeous this embossing folder is, this time using the folder how it was intended to be used and showing off the embossed side of the card, finishing with some die cuts and white bakers’ twine…

So now I have a set of 4 cards in the same colour scheme of night of navy, white and silver.

So, do you have a favourite? I really enjoyed this challenge and love how the cards turned out.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join the challenge this week – we’d love to see what you make.  Do pop by to see the examples the other members of the Design Team have been creating for you.

Enjoy your weekend
