A Soft Winter Scene – 52 Christmas Card Throwdown Colour Challenge

This week’s colour challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown called for a delicate and dreamy palette of baby blue, white, and light brown – a beautiful combination that feels crisp, clean and quietly festive.

Card Details

  • Challenge theme: Colour – Baby Blue, White & Light Brown
  • Card size: A6
  • Main products: Clarity Stamp Snowflake mask & Fresh Cut Circle dies, Stampin’ Up inks, card and stamps

Step 1: Creating the Background

To start, I took an A6 base card in basic white cardstock. I positioned the Snowflake mask from Clarity Stamp over the top half of the card and blended Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink over the mask using a blending brush, keeping the colour soft and frosty.

Once the snowflakes were revealed, I used a water brush dipped in Crumb Cake ink to flick some light brown splashes across the background for a touch of texture and movement.

Step 2: Focal Point and Sentiment

I die cut a large white circle using the Fresh Cut Circle dies by Clarity Stamp to serve as the central panel.

The sentiment, from the So Many Stars stamp set by Stampin’ Up, was stamped in Crumb Cake ink in the top right corner of the circle. I chose this sentiment especially for the way the words curve – they created the perfect nook to tuck in the next elements.

Step 3: Building the Scene

To create a gentle winter landscape, I die cut two trees from white cardstock, then lightly inked them using both Tumbled Glass and Crumb Cake inks to echo the colours used in the background.

A strip of Crumb Cake cardstock was adhered across the width of the card to ground the scene and add warmth.

I then popped the circle die cut up on foam adhesive and adhered it slightly left of centre, overlapping the Crumb Cake strip. The inked trees were arranged on the circle, nestling neatly beneath the sentiment to complete the scene.

Step 4: Embellishing

To finish off, I added a scattering of flat disc sequins from Spellbinders (Lagoon) using wet glue – the shimmer and pale blue tone complement the card beautifully, adding a little festive sparkle without overpowering the soft colour palette.

Final Thoughts

This week’s colours really took me out of my usual red-and-green comfort zone, but I love how this card turned out – so gentle and serene. A lovely twist on traditional festive tones.

The challenge is open for you to play along – we’d love to see what you come up with for this baby blue, white and light brown challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

Happy crafting! ❄️🌲💙
