A Blue, Grey & Pink Christmas Card | 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

This week’s colour challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is a slightly unusual one — blue, grey and pink. Not my go-to festive palette, I’ll admit, but that’s exactly why I enjoy these challenges… they really do push you to try something different!

I had a lovely time putting this card together using elements from the Joyful Christmas Card Kit by Spellbinders, along with a few stamped additions to tie everything into the colour scheme.

Here’s how it came together.

What You’ll Need

  • Cardstock: White
  • Designer Paper & Ephemera: Joyful Christmas Card Kit (Spellbinders)
  • Stamps:
    • Christmas Season (Stampin’ Up)
    • So Many Stars (Stampin’ Up – sentiment)
  • Ink: Black, Bashful Blue
  • Dies: Small snowflake dies
  • Other: Foam adhesive, liquid glue, grey marker (e.g. Sharpie)

Step 1: Create the Card Base

Start with an A6 white card base.

From the card kit, take a piece of grey designer paper — I actually used a scrap left over from a previous project where I’d die cut a circle, which worked perfectly here.

Adhere the paper to the card front and trim it to fit.

Step 2: Stamp the sentiment

Stamp a sentiment from the So Many Stars stamp set in black ink.  I positioned this towards the bottom right directly onto the card base, using a stamp platform for accuracy.

Step 3: Add the Poinsettias

From the Joyful Christmas Card Kit, select two poinsettia ephemera pieces in different sizes.

Layer and adhere them to the top right of the card using foam adhesive to give them some dimension.

Step 4: Add Stamped Foliage

To bring in the blue from the colour challenge, stamp several foliage images from the Christmas Season stamp set onto white cardstock using Bashful Blue ink.

Fussy cut these out and tuck them in behind the poinsettias, building up a fuller arrangement.

Step 5: Add Snowflake Details

Die cut three tiny snowflakes from white cardstock and adhere them around the floral spray in a loose, random pattern.

These add a delicate, wintry touch and help balance the design.

Step 6: Adjust the Colours

One little tweak I made — the centres of the poinsettias originally had gold foiling dots, which didn’t quite fit the challenge colours.

So, I simply coloured over them with a grey marker, which worked perfectly to bring everything back into the blue, grey and pink palette.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed stepping outside my usual festive colours for this one. The combination of blue, grey and pink feels soft and slightly modern, and pairing the kit elements with stamped foliage helped tie everything together nicely.

It’s also a great reminder to look at what you already have — scraps, leftovers and kits can all be mixed and matched to create something completely new.

If you’re feeling a bit stuck in a red-and-green rut, why not give this week’s 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge a go? You might just discover a new favourite colour combo!

Happy crafting!
