Christmas critters

Another fun challenge set by Majda this week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown – this time to use Christmas critters on a card.

I had the pleasure of attending the craft event at Hulme Hall in Port Sunlight last weekend. It was so nice to see lots of craft companies there.  I fell in love with this Mama Elephant stamp set called ‘penguins go skating’…

I stamped these cuties on white card and used alcohol markers to colour and shade, and die cut with the matching dies.

For the background, I added ink onto coated card using my brayer in marina mist and wisteria wonder inks until I got a nice blend.  I added splashes of white acrylic paint for snow, and once dry, stamped tiny snowflakes from the same stamp set in white craft ink in a random pattern over the background.

Once the paint was dry, I stamped the greeting, from the ‘jolly and merry’ stamp set, also by Mama Elephant, using my Misti stamping tool to line it up, then heat embossed using clear embossing ink by Stampin Up.  I added a white panel to the bottom, die cut with a stitched edging die to form a snowy hill.

I popped up the panel on foam tape onto a 6 inch square base card, and adhered the penguins using stampin dimensionals.

I just love how cute these little Mama Elephant images. I treated myself to some more of their stamps and dies too, so I’m excited to be back to crafting again.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join in the challenge this week, the design team at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown would love to see what you make.

Have a good weekend

Christmas fairy lights card

Hi and welcome.

It’s theme week this week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge, and this time I chose “fairy lights” as they are one of my favourite things to decorate our home with at Christmas.  They can be called many different things around the world – twinkle lights, holiday lights, mini lights, etc – but whatever they are to you, they are sure to bring some joy and light to any festive season…

I die cut card in rainbow colours by Stampin’ Up of poppy parade, pumpkin pie, daffodil delight, green galore, and tempting tuquoise, for the bulb part of the fairy lights, and silver card by Sizzix for the string and tops.

I chose to make a slimline card as the design and layout fitted much better than my usual square  cards.

I stamped the sentiment from the Stampin’ Up stamp set Christmas Pines, in black stazon ink, using my Misti for perfect placement.  As the base card has a slight texture, I had to stamp it 3 times to get a good image, so I was so glad I chose to use my Misti – worth its weight in gold that thing!

I decided against popping up the fairy lights so the card will be flat for posting.

Fairy lights have changed so much over the years. I loved the sets my parents had, with tiny magical covers, such as Cinderella coaches, or flowers and bells – they made the tree glow beautifully!  Nowadays, my tree is just a mass of tiny LEDs, so I just have to fill it with more toys and decorations! Yay!

I hope you’ve been inspired to join us at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown – we would love to see what beautiful cards you come up with.  There’s a little bit more about the history about fairy lights over on the challenge blog, so do pop by for a visit.

Enjoy your weekend
