Silver and white ornament keepsakes …

This week’s challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is to make a Christmas card using a previous sketch.  There is a really helpful section on the site listing all the previous sketch challenges.  I looked back through the archives and decided that I loved this one from November 2012…

Sketch 11

I usually try to keep as close to the sketch as possible, but this time I tweaked it slightly by flipping the embellishment and the sentiment, which seemed to work better for my card …

The bauble was heat embossed in silver and cut out using the matching ornament keepsakes framelits and my big shot machine.  I heat embossed the sentiment too…

To make the background paper, I used the flourish stamp from Creative Elements and stamped onto whisper white cardstock in frost white shimmer paint, giving a beautiful shimmery image which is really pretty in real life…

I’ve been having a tidy of my craft room and found a length of white organza ribbon in my ribbon box, that has a pretty silver tinsel-like thread through the centre.  I thought it was too pretty not to be used, so I tied it in a bow and adhered it to the top of the bauble die cut with some mini glue dots.   I found my stash of Stampin’ Up adhesive pearls too, so added a large adhesive pearl to the centre of the bauble… I love the size of these large pearls – gorgeous!

I struggled with my camera today.  After what seemed like a gazillion attempts, I managed to take one shot showing how shiny the silver embossing is!  Trust me – the embossing is so pretty in real life and I’m sure that whoever I give my card to will appreciate the colours and shine.

Ornament keepsakes from Stampin’ Up

I’m so happy I’m able to join in this week’s challenge over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge blog.  It feels so good to be back to crafting again.

This week is a colour theme, and they are a little different to the traditional Christmas hues…

Simple May Colors copy

I struggled at first as they were not my usual go-to shades, so this combo had me a little perplexed … until I broke out my ornament keepsakes stamp set from Stampin’ Up that is, then I just started playing with inks and made this …

I started by making the background, stamping tiny snowflakes in versamark ink onto glossy white cardstock.

Once dry, I added rich razzleberry ink using the direct to paper technique, and then buffed and blended the ink into the cardstock with a stampin’ sponge.  I love the different shades of colour in the background – it is really beautiful in real life.

Next, I used the same technique for the baubles using melon mambo ink, and the leaves in old olive. I hunted high and low for my whisper white baker’s twine, but could I find it?  No is the answer! So I improvised and used some white wool for the bauble hangers.

A few adhesive rhinestones and tiny hand-tied silver bows, added a little sparkle to this pink and pretty Christmas card.  Hope you like it.
