Punch art kitty cat …

Hi and welcome to my blog.

This week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, Louise has used her love of cats to set a fun theme challenge. I feel very lucky to have built a large library of stamps, but unfortunately cat stamps are not among them! So instead, I turned to punch art to make a cat for my DT card …

I followed this week’s sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, sitting my punch art kitty on top of the Good Greetings Christmas sentiment by Stampin’ Up. It made me smile to sit this punch art kitty precariously on top of a narrow ledge, just like my own cat likes to do!

Sponging the edges of the punched pieces added shading and definition…

This kitty is in soft grey with white socks – I love her pink paddy-paws! I made some punch art holly for her to wear using matching pool party cardstock…

I made holly for the Santa hats on the cake I made at Christmas too …

Just like punch art in 3D really!

I was wondering what to make for my cake topper, and spotted these Christmas totem poles on Pinterest and was wowed. I’m not sure if they’re made in sugar or modelling clay, but I was inspired to make one for myself using fondant. I’ve tried to find who the original artist was, but the photos on Pinterest are not watermarked and don’t link to a website. If it’s you, please let me know so I can give you credit – I think your models are amazing!

Punch art Rudolph … sparkly and bright …

Hi and welcome to my blog. It’s my final week as host designer at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. I’ve had a blast designing new challenges for you each week – I hope you’ve enjoyed them and played along with us. For my final challenge, I’ve chosen the technique of punch art.

Punch art is a great way of stretching your punches, using up card scraps, and making cute images for your cards. So, here’s my cute Rudolph, with his sparkly red nose …

Sponging the edges of the punched pieces adds shading and depth …

Making the eyes can be a bit tricky, but is made easier with Stampin’ Up dies. I used a similar technique for my punch art Easter bunny, and I have a free tutorialhttps://lilybygilly.wordpress.com/free-tutorials/ available.

Rudolph is the focal point, backed with pretty snowflake Christmas paper, and he’s sitting on a snowy hill of whisper white cardstock. Highlights were added with a white gel pen.

I hope you like my card for this week. Now it’s time to see what the rest of the Design Team has been making for your inspiration. Do stop by and give them some lovin’.
