Pretty pines

Hello and welcome.

So happy to be joining the lovely ladies at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown again this week, with Majda’s last challenge for October.  This is a fun tic-tac-toe challenge, so there are lots of options to choose from.  I chose the bottom row of the tic-tac-toe board – die cut, deer and embossing…

I love the deep embossing of the 3D textured impressions embossing folder, Christmas tree pattern by Sizzix – so Christmassey…

I had a selection of Christmas greenery, die cut from various shades of green.  I sponged ink to the edges of some, and used markers to add shading to the centre of others.

I played around with the die cuts until I was happy with the arrangement and adhered them to the die cut ovals.

I challenged myself further to use only things from my scrap box on my desk.  These were all bits and bobs from past projects that had gone unused… until now. I’m really happy with how it turn out.

I hope you’ve been inspired to join the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – we’d love to see your beautiful cards.

Enjoy your weekend

Masculine Christmas cards

I am delighted to be joining the design team ladies over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week, for the colour challenge set by Majda, which is to use brown, green and white.

These are not colours I would normally reach for when making a Christmas card, so I grappled with which way to go with the design. So, as I tried out several designs, I ended up with two cards to share with you this week.  My first is a collage – a little out of my comfort zone but I absolutely love how it turned out…

I cut a piece of designer paper to fit a standard A6 card base, leaving a small white border. Then stamped a sentiment and small snowflakes from the Endless Wishes stamp set in early espresso ink, randomly over the paper.  I decided the large snowflake was a bit too dark in brown and was competing with the reindeer die cut, so used a white gelly roll pen to cover over the line art, and also added dots of snow across the card.

The Tim Holtz reindeer die was cut from early espresso cardstock and embossed with the wood grain embossing folder.  The green glitter designer paper is from my stash and gives some added texture and sparkle to the card.  Finally, I added a white snowflake die cut by Tim Holtz to finish.

And my second card is more my usual style …

Using similar design elements, this time I die cut the reindeer using the wood textures designer paper by Stampin Up, and adhered the negative piece over early espresso card embossed with the woodgrain embossing folder.

More sparkly paper and die cut snowflakes completed the card.

I have my favourite – which one is yours?

I hope you’ve been inspired to join the challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this week – we’d love to see your designs.

Enjoy your weekend
