Winter Wonderland tag Christmas card

Hi and welcome to my blog.

I had lots of fun making my Design Team card for the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge this week.

My team mate, Lucinda, set the challenge to use a tag, or tags, to make a card. I first cut a piece of watercolour paper to size, then added shabby shutters distress ink to my craft mat and sprayed with water to make some interesting puddles of ink, mopped up the ink with the watercolour paper, adding more here and there to achieve the colours and patterns I was happy with.

Whilst my tag was drying, I thought about what I would use for the focal point of the card. I looked through my collection of dies and decided on the large stag from the Tim Holtz Alterations Winter Wonderland thinlits die set, and the wreath and foliage of the Sizzix Winter Garland die set, all die cut using a mixture of silver, glitter and whisper white card. I added colour to some of the white leaves using a water brush and distress ink, adding more ink to the centre of the leaves for a bit of depth and shade…

Next, browsing through my stash of designer series paper, I came across this tartan patterned paper and thought that the colours worked really well together and also went well with the stag. I added a strip of crumb cake card behind the paper for balance…

I used my crop-a-dile to attach a large We R Memory Keepers eyelet and tied a length of very vanilla thick baker’s twine, fraying the ends slightly. I added a simple greeting from the More Merry Messages by Stampin’ Up, stamped in black ink and cut into a banner shape, and a rhinestone for the centre of the flower, then popped the whole thing up on craft foam and attached to the centre of a piece of A4 whisper white card, scored and folded in half.

So, not my usual square shaped card this week – I hope you like it.

We would love for you to join our challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and show us your beautiful creations.

Enjoy your weekend.

  1. Beautiful and magical !

  2. This is so pretty Gill! The ink smooshing looks like dappled sunlight in a forest glade, behind your stag. And the wreath and foliage is beautifully delicate. Gorgeous card.
