Mixed-media Christmas card

We have a mixed-media technique challenge this week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. I was really excited to attempt this challenge, and delighted to be able to use some products I bought a long time ago, but have never used before!

I added tumbled glass distress ink to a piece of watercolour paper using the same technique as another card here.

Once dry, I added texture paste through a stencil, just here and there – I didn’t want to cover the whole area.

Raiding my scraps box, I tore some dsp for interest; punched the edge of a piece of card which I’d splashed with gold paint, using an eyelet border punch; and added a scrap of lace leftover from when I made wedding invitations and here – told you I’ve had some of these things a long time!

I’m so happy that I finally found a use for this red poinsettia I made ages ago too! I love the contrast of colours – the red really pops against the blue background.

And whilst I had all my crafting supplies out, I decided to make another card … I was obviously having too much fun!

This time I covered the whole watercolour paper with the texture paste – I think I prefer the patchy look of the first card better …

The dsp in the background I’ve had since I started paper crafting – it was one of my very first purchases, but I was reluctant to cut into it – it was too pretty! Now it’s fulfilled its destiny … love the glittery snowflakes.

Delving again into my stash collection of bits and bobs, I used simply pressed paper clay by Stampin’ Up to make a decorative strip. It’s really fun stuff to use, and once dry, is lightweight and robust enough to add to a card. The little wooden, glittered snowflake was also one of my very first purchases – I just didn’t know what to use it for … until now!

I used gilding flakes for the greeting and added die cuts by Sizzix.

I hope you like my cards this week – I really enjoyed making them. I’ll definitely be attempting more mixed media cards, and we do hope you’ll pop over to 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and join this fab challenge.

Enjoy your weekend.
