Happy Saturday and welcome to my blog.
The colour challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this month is to use grey, gold and black – rather an unusual combination, and not one I would have thought of myself to use, but I love how my card turned out…
I started by cutting the base card in smoky slate to make a 5.5″ square card…
Next I added a layer of patterned paper from the Snowberry collection by the Lovely Studio, which has these pretty snowflakes in soft grey. I stamped the bold greeting, from the Christmas Pines stamp set by Stampin Up, directly onto the paper in VersaFine Clair black ink, using my Misti stamping tool for perfect placement. I love this ink – it’s so juicy, stamps beautifully and doesn’t stain my stamps – perfect! It’s easy clean up too – just water and a good scrub on my stampin’ scrub and done!
I die cut two christmas deer by Sizzix, one in black and one in brushed gold, and layered them together, off-setting the black one just a little to create a shadow, and popped up with foam adhesive, adding a little dimension…
Finally, a sprinkle of gem stones to finish. I didn’t have any black gems so used a black alcohol marker to colour the brown ones I had – worked brilliantly!
It pushed me out of my comfort zone using this unusual colour combination, but I really enjoyed experimenting and seeing what worked together, and I love the end result.
I hope you’ve been inspired, and that you will join in the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.
Enjoy your weekend
